Basic Expedition Leader – Level 3

The Basic Expedition Leader Level 3 Course is aimed at voluntary youth workers, youth and community workers within the public centre, teachers and any member of the community who are interested in the outdoors and wish to:
a) Train people in the basic skills involved in journeying on foot in the British Isles in summer conditions
b) Lead parties or groups in the lowland areas
c) Have responsibility for the care of others, particularly the young out of doors, including day journeying parties
d) Build the ability to organise safe overnight camps in lowland areas
Interested candidates must be at least 18 years of age before they receive the Award, although they may commence training after their 17th birthday. The Award does not qualify people to lead groups in remote or mountainous areas.
Courses can be arranged for groups, clubs, schools and colleges. They are usually conducted over four weekends and are held within the Brecon Beacons national Park and adjoining areas

The Basic Expedition Leader Level 3 is the minimum qualification required by many local authorities to train and lead groups to the Expedition Section of the Bronze and Silver Awards.
