A potted history of who we are…
Mike Lloyd-Wood – Centre Manager and Principal Guide of M. W. Guiding Services, Mike has over 35 years experience of mountaineering in the British Isles, French and Swiss Alps and high altitude trekking in the Himalayas. He has extensive knowledge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, which has built up over a long period working as a Warden in the area.

Mike is a licensed provider of outdoor activities within the National Park, being registered with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and Activity Wales (Outdoor Activities Centres approved by the Wales Tourist Board).
Together with his wife Dawn and as an Approved Activity Provider recognised by the Award at Windsor, they manage and run their own ’Open Expedition Centre’ in the Brecon Beacons National Park organising and supervising expeditions for candidates undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
M. W. Guiding Services is also an authorised provider of the National Navigation Award and the British Sports Trust BEL Award, which provides training for future expedition leaders for the outdoors.
Dawn Lloyd-Wood – Business Partner, Senior Administrator and Qualified Instructor in M. W. Guiding Services. Dawn joined the family run business full time in 2002 after a career in L.E.A.
She is a qualified teacher and former Senior Youth Worker with Caerphilly County Borough Council. Her initial involvement with the outdoors started in 1992 as a Youth Worker with the British Red Cross Association when she successfully completed the Vierdaagse Nijmegan Four Day Endurance March in the Netherlands, leading a team of young adults. Since this time she has had 15 years experience of outdoor activities, including tutoring the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at L.E.A. evening classes.
Dawn has vast experience of mountaineering in the British Isles as well as in Italy, Ireland and France. She also has experience of high altitude trekking in Nepal.
